6  -  2  Setter Triangle

One alignment of the 6 - 2 offense will have the #1 setter, #1 outside hitter and the #1 middle blocker positioned alternately in positions 6, 4 and 2, respectively. These players form a triangle on the court to allow the best setter to have either the best hitter or best blocker (or both) in each of the three rotations as setter. Conversely, the best hitter and blocker will have the #1 setter with them in two of their front row rotations. The first example, the setter follows,or pushes, the #2 middle blocker (not part of his/her triangle) through the rotations. This is commonly called the Setter Push lineup. When each of the hitters' and middle blockers' positions are reversed and the setter will be in front of, or pull, the #2 middle blocker through the rotations, this is referred to as the Setter Pull lineup.

In the Middle Opposite lineup, the setter is replaced by a middle blocker in the rotation where the setting position rotates from left back to left front.
